As a foreign worker in KL, my monthly expenses used to be RM3,500. Now? RM2,500 — without sacrificing comfort or convenience.
Here’s my exact system — tested for 10 months.
💰 My Monthly Budget Breakdown:

1. Rent: Shared Condo Near LRT
- Moved from Bangsar (RM2,200) to Sri Petaling (RM1,300)
- Shared 2-room condo with 1 roommate
- 5-min walk to LRT → saved RM200/month on Grab
2. Transport: Touch ‘n Go + Cycling
- Loaded RM100/week on Touch ‘n Go card
- Used LRT + MRT only (no taxis)
- Bought second-hand bicycle (RM300) for short trips
- Monthly transport cost: RM180 (was RM450)
3. Groceries: Smart Shopping Strategy
- AEON BIG: Weekly bulk buys (rice, oil, eggs)
- Pasar Borong: Fresh veggies at 50% off supermarket prices
- Shopee: Used “FREESHIP” + “NEWUSER” codes for household items
4. Food: Cook + Mamak Combo
- Cooked dinner at home 5 days/week (RM8/meal)
- Ate at mamak stall 2 days/week (nasi lemak + teh tarik = RM7)
- Monthly food cost: RM600 (was RM1,100)
5. Entertainment & Subscriptions
- Cancelled Netflix, switched to YouTube Premium (RM15 vs RM55)
- Joined free community events (KLCC Park, National Museum)
- Used student discount at TGV (RM12 vs RM22)
